The secret toys that hide in your shoes.
designworks was asked to brainstorm ideas for toys that could be added into a sole cavity of clarks shoes. The age range was 4-7 years old. The outcome of the brainstorming session was for boys to have a car theme while girls would follow a dress up doll theme.
Colour visuals were produced in illustrator for marketing purposes showing in detail what the final product would look like and function. Sculptors then used the Sensable Freeform software + Phantom desktop arm to sculpt daisy in virtual space. The digital sculpting arm provides precision positioning input and high fidelity force-feedback output. A multitude of colours options were created to allow several characters to be produced from one set of tools. Different dresses, shoes and handbags were also created to differentiate the characters even further. Snap fit details were utilised to allow the users to change Daisy’s shoes and hair with ease. All engineering details were resolved in CAD to allow for easy manufacture and assembly. A wardrobe / accessories holder was developed in CAD to allow easy packout in production as well as storage for all small parts.
Decal artworks were then created in illustrator with cutter paths and bleeds, ready for production. The CAD model was used to get these cutter paths accurately from before parts were made.
