Toy design specialists designworks were used to create four different models for the GR8 scrapheap welder kit produced by character options. The four designs had to share similar parts and be made from mostly flat die-cut parts. Using the welder children are able to join the parts together to make the four toys.
Concept sketches were created first to assess the look and feel of the toys. These sketches were then rendered to show how colours and materials could play an improtant role in making a cool toy. The designs were then built in CAD software in 3D. The software was then used to generate flat cutter paths of the bent plastic pieces to assist in producing mockups of all parts. Prototype models were produced inhouse at designworks to test the fit function of the toy.
