global monopoly.

Designworks have been working closely with Hasbro’s Monopoly team for many years. Due to the strength of the game and it’s global appeal the brand has been extending into many new and exciting product areas. We were challenged with bringing monopoly into the digital age, yet still retaining its core board game appeal.

The main areas of focus for the design were the electronic card reading console, the board and the movers. People get quite emotional about products they have an attachment to though their childhood and Monopoly is one of those products, the movers especially have to “feel” a certain way to retain the Monopoly values.

The credit card transactions were established in a previous version of Monopoly but this hasn’t stopped the debate re igniting to cash vs card debate now that the revolutions edition has been released.

The very first Monopoly board was round so this seemingly radical aesthetic which carried through to its final production is actually a nod to the game’s heritage.

Through many design iterations, prototype presentations, CAD refinement and meeting with our counterparts at Hasbro we funnelled the concept through to what is sitting on shop shelves around the world today. Through our understanding of the brand and the range of facilities we have in house, we were able to run the project alongside Hasbro’s R+D team with regular design refinements carried out ready for presentations in a matter of days!.
